  29
Well, I turned 29 years old yesterday. Owen turned 29 weeks Tuesday and tomorrow is the 29th of September. Thanks everyone who sent me emails, myspace messages, cards, flowers, presents and called me. I have some great friends. Thank you all. And maybe I'll get to post some actual pictures if I live through this frickin' week. If I can just make it to 30 without having a mental breakdown...

  Dogs are so much fun.
Holly just peed on the floor and while I went to get the mop to clean it up, she ate my sandwich. Nice.

  Quick update
I've got a ton of pictures to post and I want to write about the class reunion this past weekend, but I've got a lot of work to get to and I've been trying to get the laundry done and the house back together since we've been back. Also, I've been sick, so things are a little hectic to say the least. I even missed doing the Friday poll.

One quick thing I HAVE to mention is that on Saturday Owen really started saying, "mama" and he's been saying it A LOT since then. Of course he mainly says it when he's very upset and crying, but it is very cute.

My Son's Obsession with Feet and other things...
Owen has always loved his feet. When he first was able to get them to his mouth to suck on them it was like the greatest thing in the world for him. Now, he is not only obessed with his own feet, but if he happens to catch a glimpse of someone else's feet it is equally fascinating. When he is sitting in mine or Austin's lap and sees our feet, he has no regard for his body. He just knows he wants to get those toes in his mouth. I have to hold onto him because he will try, head first, to reach them without realizing that if I didn't have him, he would land right on his head.

Another kind of odd thing he's been doing lately is the fake cough. He does it when he's thirsty and when he's about to cry, but it is so obviously completely fake. It is really funny.

And the last thing I have to mention is the funny sucking motion he's been making. He is actually sucking on his lips. His top or bottom lip turns into his mouth and he makes sucking noises. It is so bizarre, but really, really cute.

  Learning from my mistakes
I guess I will continue to do dumb things for the rest of my life. And no, it isn't because I'm blonde! I learned tonight, that I should only put a very small amount of noodles down the garbage disposal at a time. Luckily, when I put the lemon down the disposal a few months ago, Austin watched the guy who came to the house to fix it and learned how to open up the drain and get the clog out. So, on an evening when we had a million other things to do, we spent it digging small noodles out of a pipe. Fun. Of course, Austin did most of the work.

After everything was fixed, Austin picked up an oven mitt and said, "this looks kind of old and worn. Why don't we just put it down the garbage disposal? I'm sure it will go right down the drain." To which I replied, "Shut up."

  Orange
I went to Ethan's soccer game today (I'll post pictures soon). As we were leaving, we ended up walking next to two ladies and their daughters. The daughters were wearing orange cheerleading outfits and the moms were wearing blue shirts. One mom said, "we have got to go home and change out of this orange and blue crap. It is bad luck." I started laughing. She said, "When we moved here we were deciding whether to move into the Parkview or Brookwood district." (for those of you who don't live around here, Parkview High School is where my sister went to school and the colors are orange and blue. Brookwood's colors are maroon and gold). "Of course we ended up at Parkview! And we're Seminoles. When we joined cheerleading we had to decide whether we wanted blue or orange shirts. I chose blue because I'm not wearing a GD orange shirt!" I know how she feels. I think one of the reasons I preferred Shiloh High School to Parkview was the colors. We might not have had the best football team, but silver and black are much better colors than orange and blue!

  911
Yesterday was the 5 year anniversary of 9/11. We watched a lot of the news coverage and it just brought back all of those feelings of complete horror. Nothing will ever compare to the shock I felt that morning when I sat and watched the towers collapse on my TV in the apartment in Lawrenceville. It is hard to believe that Owen and all of the other children will never know a world pre-9/11. Our world changed. I am so sorry for the families that were affected by such a terrible tragedy.

These include the leftovers from this month's letter, a visit to Pat's house on Labor Day, my mom's flowers she got after her surgery, Owen's first Georgia game and a visit to Loganville from Vince Dooley.

  To Owen... (6 months old)

It is hard to believe how much you are changing. You can sit up now. You still fall over after a while, but for the most part, you are MUCH more steady and sure of yourself. I know you'll be crawling in no time. And, your weight has remain fairly steady in the past month or so. You are still wearing 18-24 month clothes. At your doctor appointment today, you weighed 21 pounds 13.5 ounces (above 95th percentile. You are in the 75th percentile for height and the 95th percentile for head size.

Physically, you are also getting much more coordinated. You are better able to push buttons and levers and things on your toys. And, you can actually get your pacifier and toys to your mouth most of the time (although, sometimes the pacifier is backwards or sideways). Of course, sometimes, you get things to your mouth that aren't your toys...

The doctor said that you've got 2 teeth coming in. I hope they get here soon! You seem to be hurting, so I don't know if it is your teeth or if we need to increase the Zantac dose. I hate for you to be in pain!

You love your new carseat. You like to sleep in the car very much nowadays. And we are getting more use out of high chairs and your floppy seat (which goes in shopping carts). You really enjoy being able to sit up and look around a lot better than you could in your infant carrier. And, I am still very much in love with your sling. We love to go places together.

You have really started to love your toys. Your Gymboree beach ball and finger puppets are particularly interesting, but you seem to enjoy most any toy we let you explore and play with. A new thing that you particularly like is a "taggie" blanket. I noticed how much you enjoy feeling the tags on your bibs, so I thought the blanket was a great idea. The tags are all around it and they are different textures, patterns and colors. You have really enjoyed it!

You are still fascinated with feet. You love your feet and anyone else's. Nanny's feet did scare you the other day since you couldn't see your own feet. They were covered up and all you could see were her feet. We think you might have thought that your feet grew really big all of a sudden because you kept staring at them and then you started crying. It was really cute.

You and Holly are really starting to enjoy each other. You love watching her run around and play. And you think it is so funny when she tries to lick your hands and feet.

You and your Daddy are just as close as ever too. He went away for three days last week and he said that he missed you like crazy. He was so glad to see you when he got home. And you were really glad to see him too. He still makes you laugh more than anyone.

You are the most amazing little person. Every day when I see your sweet little smile, it makes me feel a happiness that I never knew was in me. And I get so overwhelmed when I just look into your eyes and they look back at me. I feel like you already kind of know what's going on.

Love, Mama
