  Congratulations!!!
Dawn, who comments sometimes here at Fried Okra, had her baby. She is very cute (http://www.babybent.blogspot.com/)!

Also, congratulations to the other expectant mothers out there!

  We changed our minds
We are just going to keep Owen on antibiotics for another year for his kidneys rather than risking the procedure. I think my mind is at ease now.

I had this yearbook editor back in college
that taught me two very important lessons that I still use today as a graphic designer. First, she said that the most effective advertising and design is very, very simple and to the point. Second, she said that the best pictures you will ever take will be in the early morning, just after the sun rises and right before the sun sets at night. I took these pictures the other night just before the sun set at a new office complex here in Loganville called Judah Crossing. I'm working on their brochure for them and I was so excited about how the pictures turned out.

  Loganville Spring Scholarship Run
We handed out t-shirts on Friday night to the runners. Owen was such a big help. He pushed his stroller all over the gym and played basketball with his dad. (My t-shirt design is the last photo here.)

Banker's Grove/Liberty First Bank Ribbon Cutting
I did the logo for Banker's Grove, an office condo development in Monroe. They just had the ribbon cutting and groundbreaking ceremony for the bank, for which I also did the logo.

  Argh!
We have no water and now no cable either.

  I just can't stop watching
all of the footage about Virginia Tech. It is so sad. And it was just because of a stupid psycho. I want to know why no one has talked to his parents. Where are they in all this? Anyway, my heart goes out to everyone involved.

  The Urologist
Well, the appointment at the urologist went pretty well (at least after the hour wait). He gave us two choices. We could continue the antibiotics for another year and do anotherVCUG in a year to test and see if he has grown out of his reflux. The other choice is to do a procedure called DEFLUX. It is non-surgical, but they would have to put Owen to sleep while they inject a gel into his ureter that will most likely stop the reflux. We would have to follow up in a couple of months after the procedure with anotherVCUG , but assuming everything goes well, we would just have to do yearly ultrasounds for awhile to make sure everything is still working the way it should. Anyway, we are leaning towards DEFLUX and to read more about it, go to this website: http://deflux.com/

  Wish us luck!
We go see the urologist about Owen today. I'll let you know what he says.

We got the Elmo balloon like a week before Owen's birthday!

  Birthday Dinner
Ethan turned five today. That is so hard to believe! My sister told him that he could have whatever he wanted for dinner tonight. He wanted Ramen noodles and sausage. She added applesauce and milk to make it a little bit healthier.

  To Owen... (13 months old)

You are making a definite transition from baby to toddler. You might not be walking, but you are cruising all over the place holding onto furniture and toys. This month has brought a fascination with the television. Not that you are too interested in watching TV, but you love to hit the big TV in the living room. Every time you are out in the living room you have been crawling as fast as you can to the television and hitting it. When I pick you up and move you away from the TV, you start laughing hysterically and and turn around and head back for the TV again. I finally had to move the Playzone gate from around the coffee table to in front of the TV to keep you from hurting it. So far, that is working.

You also seem to be communicating better with us this month. It is like something has clicked that makes you try to copy us more and talk to us more. You are waving all the time now and as soon as we blow raspberries or do "mouth didgeridoo" with you, you do the same thing back to us. It is so cute when you wave. You take your little hand and open and close it. You started waving like this at yourself, but now you wave like this to everyone. You even wave at Holly and you waved at Thomas the Tank Engine on TV the other day. When we went to see "Dinosaurs" at the Center for Puppetry Arts, you waved whenever new dinosaurs would come on stage.

Your flirting has gone up a level. Now, you wave at people and smile and laugh at them. You called everyone at the grocery store "dada" a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, people sometimes try to not notice you or make eye contact with you, but you do everything in your power to get attention. You love for people to smile at you, laugh at you, or just to notice you.

Books are becoming a little more interesting for you. You rarely seem to pay attention to a whole book, unless it is "Goodnight Moon" and you are really tired; when we read "Goodnight Moon" you are especially interested in the red balloon and the young mouse. You point at them and smile. It is really cute.

You are having a few separation anxiety issues that have been making me a little crazy lately. Sometimes you only want me or your daddy to hold you. Sometimes, you don't even want to be put down for a second when I'm doing things around the house. But, I know this is all developmentally normal, because separation anxiety peaks between 12 and 18 months.

You talk all the time. You still only have a few distinct words: mama, dada, na-na (nurse), bye-bye, and hey/hi. I know you must be trying to say more since you are making all kinds of different sounds, but none of the words seem recognizable quite yet. You have really started to combine "bye-bye" with waving, which is so cute.

You are getting better at playing with your toys the way they are meant to be played with (at least some of them). You push your toy truck all over the place (usually laughing), you push the balls down the ball chute on your learning playground (you sometimes put other things down the chute too, like the phone and water bottles), and you can put the coins in your play piggy bank. You are also getting better at opening cabinets and drawers.

Lately it seems like you can make just about anything into a dangerous weapon that you can use to hurt yourself. I have to watch you like a hawk to make sure you aren't eating anything you shouldn't or climbing on anything that you could fall off of.

I suppose your hair is getting a little too long. People have been mistaking you for a girl for the past couple of weeks (even though I certainly don't dress you like a girl!). I really love the way it curls up in the back. Although some days it seems sort of straight - go figure. It does get in your eyes a little bit, so we probably will get it trimmed soon (I guess people would really think you were a girl if I started pulling it off your face with a barrette!).

Turning the car seats around has been great. You really seem to enjoy facing forward. It has been especially helpful on longer drives in the van since you can watch DVDs. I think you also like that you can keep your eye on me.

You and Holly are still friends. You can throw her toys to her now - actually it is more like raising your hand up in the air with the toy and dropping it. She seems to get a little irritated by you rolling on her, pulling her hair, and trying to bite her. However, she does like it when you drop food on the floor to her. You let her lick your tongue the other day. That was gross.

You are very expressive. Since the minute you were born, you have been very dramatic when you are upset. Your little lip just pokes out and you look so cute and sad. You look so different depending on what your expression is. You actually made the funniest face I've ever seen today. You squinted and stuck out your tongue and it was so funny looking.

It is like magic to watch you grow and change into a little boy. As tiring as it may be, I wouldn't trade the time I have with you for the world. Your daddy and I love you more than we ever thought we could love anything.

Love, Mama

  FYI
The pollen count got up to 5,937 last week. It was down to 675 today though - woo-hoo. By the way, over 120 is "extremely high."

I got these pretty tulips when I went to Whole Foods last week with my mom.
I didn't realize that they were breaking any laws.

  Poker Night
We had a great time at Joe's house for poker night on Saturday. I brought my camera and I meant to take pictures, but I only took this one, crappy picture:

I have to decide if I should protect Holly from Owen when he tries to tackle her, or if I should try to keep Holly from mounting Owen.

I'm sorry if I was overdramatic in that last post...
I just had a rough day. Things will be better tomorrow.

Things are really freakin' crappy right now.
What a bad day!

I know. It is Sunday, not Friday. I'm just running a little late on this one. What is the best/most memorable April Fool's joke you've heard of or ever pulled on someone or that someone has pulled on you?
